Iraqi Council of Representatives Dr. Mahmood D. Al- Mashhadani · Born in Baghdad in 1948. · Completed his primary and secondary education in Baghdad. · Joined the College of Medicine in 1966. · Graduated as first -lieutenant doctor in 1972. · Arrested when he was a major doctor in 1980 because of his opposition to the Iraqi-Iranian war. · Released from Military prison after finishing his sentence. · Arrested again in 2000 because of his opposition to the Former Regime. · Sentenced for 15 years with confiscation of all his assets. · Released in 2002 by virtue of the General Amnesty. · President of the political bureau of Al Dawa and Al Irshad organization after the fall of the Former Regime. · One of the first founders of the National Dialogue Assembly. · Elected as a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee. · Arrested by the occupying authorities in 2004 and by the forces of the Interior Ministry in 2005 and accused of supporting the Iraqi Resistance. · Elected as Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament in 2006. · Published a collection of poems entitled “When the Flowers of Saffron Wither“ in 2007. · Elected as President of the Arab Parliamentary Union 2008. |
